چکیده

To be able to meet the expected higher traffic load in the future the capacity in the networks needs to be higher. This is preferably done in the most cost efficient way as possible. Using traditional system tends to be very cost consuming and therefore new kinds of systems are evolving like multi-hop systems, relaying networks or MIMO networks. In this thesis a special kind of relaying network is investigated called Cooperative MIMO Relaying (CMIMOR) and it can be seen as hybrid between a MIMO network and a relaying network. The aim of this thesis is to compare the throughput from a radio network using CMIMOR technique with the throughput from a traditional single-hop cellular network with beamforming. The study is done for the downlink in a multi-cell TDMA/FDMA system, assuming that each cell contains only one active user. For the CMIMOR network two results are presented, due to two different power allocation algorithms for the chosen relays. From the results it can be concluded that no major differences between the two power allocation algorithms can be seen, and that the CMIMOR network is outperformed by the beamforming network. To be able to compete against the beamforming, the relaying slots within the cells must be reused and the transmissions cooperated for the different relays, minimizing the interference. An heuristic view of this relay reuse is presented and concludes that at least two relaying groups must be able to transmit within the cell at the same time causing minimal interference for the CMIMOR to be effective in this specific system.

Comparison of CDMA and FDMA/TDMA in non-GEO satellite systems

|We compare CDMA and FDMA (or TDMA) schemes in multi-beam non-geostationary satellite systems, taking the e ects of antenna patterns on inter-cell interference into consideration. The maximum acceptable number of users per cell in uplink is employed as a measure of the system capacity. We have found that in FDMA (or TDMA) systems the maximum acceptable number of users varies according to the al...

Design of Hybrid MAC Protocol for Wireless Sensor Network

Time division multiple access (TDMA) and frequency division multiple access (FDMA) are two popular multiple access technique that used in several wireless sensor networks. Both TDMA and FDMA have their own advantages and disadvantages. In this article, we have tried to use these two together for reducing the interference of inter-cluster and intra-cluster communication. We have considered a mod...

Virtual Antenna Arrays Results and ongoing studies

This paper describes results regarding cooperative MIMO relaying(CMIMOR), a.k.a virtual antenna arrays(VAA), obtained by Miguel Rodriguez and ongoing work by Fredrik Strömberg. A comparison between CMIMOR, traditional cellular networks and multi-hop networks showed that CMIMOR could increase the link throughput by a factor of 2, in a typical scenario using a relay power allocation algorithm. As...

Comparison of FDMA. TDMA and CDMA System Capacities

The capacity of mobile protocols such as FDMA (Frequency Division Multiple Access), TDMA (Time Division Multiple Access), and CDMA (Code Division Multiple Access) systems are compared assuming perfect power control and the results are compared with the previous results. Methods of calculating the traffic capacity of such systems are discussed. CDMA can provide up-to 20 times more traffic capaci...
